Being the first time at this place, I liked it. The food that I ordered was delicious. My friends and I enjoyed the food, the place, and its service. It is good to dine alone or as a group. The dishes are big enough to share (which is the ideal thing to do). This place is best known for its dumplings. I did not tried them but from what I saw at other tables, it looked tasty.

Shanghai Heping is always provides great authentic food and excellent service. For my wife and I this is our go to restaurant whenever we are in Manhattan's Chinatown. We usually get dishes such as Twin Lobsters, Dong Ho Pork and a varying vegetable dish. All are prepared well and taste great. We at times call them ahead of time if we have a particular seafood request and if it is something they do not have on hand they will send someone out to the seafood shops on Mott St. to get what we request. It is that type service that makes them a restaurant to patronize.

This is a very good and safe Chinatown establishment. Super inexpensive lunch with hot and sour soup included (no choice). Hot and Sour soup was very good, white rice was a little over cooked and the shredded beef dish was fresh and tasty. I would call it competent Chinese food. To get 5 stars 🌟 wait staff needs a little happiness dust ✨ Restaurant is clean but they use area near stairs in the dining area for box storage... a no-no of course.

Food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Place was clean and not "sketchy." Prices were very reasonable and portion sizes were great. We had the chicken fried rice, soup dumplings (yum!), and scallion pancakes.

Service was incredibly poor. We were seated right away and they weren't incredibly busy but it did take some time til someone came to take our order. I ordered soup dumplings, pan fried noodle with seafood and scallion pancakes. They brought out the sauces for the soup dumplings first and then our pancakes and then our seafood. They then brought out vegetable dumplings which were another tables order, not ours. After that we never saw our dumplings for a good 20 min so I waved down a waiter and asked twice. Both waiters said "it's coming." I watched tables who were seated after us get their dumplings before us. Then the hostess tried to come by and ask if we wanted the check. I told her we never even received our dumplings to which she replied did you want another order of dumplings? No I just want the first order I never got. They forgot all about it! She went back and had them make it but said it would take 5 more minutes. It became another 10 before we finally received them and I still watched other tables receive theirs before mine. Sadly will not be coming back as no one was apologetic to the poor communication and service. Food was actually good but I can't wait that long with a group.
